I’ve loved Northern Soul since I was introduced to it in my late-teens and this is my attempt at writing a floor-shaker of my own. I wanted to capture the spirit of those old Kent albums I first heard as a callow youth (and still listen to). It came together fairly quickly - most of it was written in my head before I even picked up the guitar. I was able to provide an almost fully formed version of the song to the band. I think it ticks a lot of the right boxes - some classic Northern Soul drums, same with the bassline, and a horn riff that is instantly memorable. Lyrically, it’s just about being honest in relationships. This was the first song I wrote specifically with the band in mind.
